Department Services:
As of July 1, 2001, the Michigan Department of Consumer & Industry Services, Bureau of Construction Codes took effect in Missaukee County. The County is required by law to enforce the Code, except in those townships, cities, or villages that officially and legally elected to enforce a nationally recognized code in their local jurisdiction. Currently, Missaukee County adheres to 2003 Michigan Building Code for commercial construction and 2003 Michigan Residential Code for residential construction.
The law stipulates under Section 105.1 of the Code; Any owner or authorized agent who intends to construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, demolish, or change the occupancy of a building or structure, or to erect, install, enlarge, alter, repair, remove, convert or replace any electrical, gas, mechanical or plumbing system, the installation of which is regulated by this code, or to cause any such work to be done, shall first make application to the building official and obtain the required permit.
