Location:       West Sanborn Road, one mile north of Lake City, west of District Health Department Building (6180 W. Sanborn Road)

 

Center Hours:  Saturdays, 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

 

Items that are recyclable and accepted at the center include:

 

Newsprint – place in boxes or paper bags or tie in bundles with twine or string

            Also accepted:  glossy flyers in papers, telephone books

Magazines & Catalogs – Keep separate from junk mail and newspapers

Junk Mail – Keep separate from junk mail and newspapers

Boxboard & Corrugated Cardboard – Remove & discard liners, cellophane or metal strips,

            Flatten boxes:  Note:  NO pizza boxes or boxes that had food directly on them; no

            Boxes that have wax-coating

Glass jars & bottles – rinse clean; remove labels, caps & rings.  NO window or plate glass,

            Light bulbs, cookware, drinking glasses, dishes

#1 and #2 Plastic – rinse clean.  NO clear plastic

Aluminum – Rinse clean

Tin/Steel       Rinse clean, remove plastic lids.  NO aerosol cans

Egg cartons – clean, unbroken (These are recycled locally)

Plastic shopping bags – clean.  (These are recycled locally)

Scrap Metal – Large appliances, washers, dryers, refrigerators, metal lawn chairs.  NO plastics,

Vinyl, furniture, paint cans, wood products.  Refrigerators MUST have freon removed.  Scrap metal is recycled locally.

 

All collected items are transported to the Wexford County Recycling Center for recycling.  Materials that cannot be recycled at the Missaukee Recycling Center must be removed from the site and disposed of in a proper manner.

 

Residents of Missaukee County can use the Wexford County Landfill, located at 990 US 131 North, located approximately half-way between Cadillac and Manton on old US 131.  Verification of residency is required either with a local drivers license or a tax bill showing a property description in Missaukee County.  The landfill can be reached at (231) 824-6858 for more information on tipping fees, hours of operation, etc.

 

The Kiwanis Club of Missaukee County is in charge of collecting and recycling newspapers, junk mail, and office paper.  Materials collected at the Missaukee Recycling Center are sold to distributors, and the collected fees are used to fund local Kiwanis Youth Programs.
