Emergency Management Department Functions

Emergency Management works cooperatively with:

  • Area Law Enforcement Agencies
  • MSP-EMHSD
  • Fire Departments
  • Emergency Medical Services
  • American Red Cross

  • Other Emergency Management Programs and NGO's

Duties:

  • Development and maintenance of Emergency Action Guidelines for Missaukee County
  • Coordination of mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery activities for emergency or disaster situations within Missaukee County
  • Provide assistance to townships and cities for plan development
  • Liaison for County Board Chairperson during emergencies 
  • Disaster grant applications
  • Coordination of county emergency management activities with those of the State and adjacent jurisdictions
  • Education of the public on actions necessary for the protection of life and property in an emergency or disaster
  • Member of the Missaukee County Local Planning Team / Local Emergency Planning Committee
  • Member and Secretary of the Region 7 Homeland Security Planning Board
  • Member of the Region 7 Homeland Security Planning Board Training and Exercise Subcommittee
  • Member of 211 Committee for Missaukee and Wexford Counties
  • Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador

Resources:

Emergency Alert System stations for the northwestern lower peninsula:  WTCM 103.5 / 93.5 FM / 580 AM - in the event of a major emergency, important information will be broadcast on these stations.

Fire Departments - Each of the six Missaukee County Fire Departments are staffed and managed by volunteer firefighters dedicated to their communities; fire response coverage is provided on a contract basis for townships and cities.
