FOOD SERVICE:

Carrie Creger
, Food Service Manager

Anthony Lutke, Part-Time Food Service
Julie Anderson, Part-time Food Service

The Missaukee County Sheriff's Office employs one full time cook and two part time cooks.  We believe they may be some of the best cooks in Missaukee County!

34,418 meals were prepared and served through our kitchen that was completely remodeled and expanded in 2013.   Our meal count has been as high as 3543 in a month with 2811 per month on average being served in 2022.   The cost per meal in 1993 was $.60.  Today the cost per meal is approximately $1.70.

All meals are approved by a nutritionist from Munson Healthcare Hospital of Cadillac.  We serve 3 meals a day.  Breakfast usually consists of cold cereal most days with 2 days being hot oatmeal.  A typical lunch could consist of sandwiches and soup with dinner being hamburgers, Spanish rice, macaroni and cheese, and many more options.  Special diets are always planned for when an inmate has specific health concerns.  For holidays such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the 4th of July, special baked goods are provided by our cooks.   All of our food and supplies come from Gordon Foods.  Occasionally we are able to get fresh veggies from Friends Ministries.

Part of the food service duties is keeping our department clean and tidy.  The cooks will supervise trustees who are able to help in the kitchen, sweep, mop, dust, shovel snow, mow the grass in the summer, rake leaves in the fall, and wash the department owned cars and boat.  They are a huge reason why the department looks good!
